Want to find out a bit more about the plays this season, straight from the experts? Come down to the Village in the hour before the show and our talented presenters will give you a 10 minute synopsis to get you up to speed on the play you’re about to see and wow your friends with fascinating facts they didn’t know! This season we’ve got a whole host of new In a Nutshell speakers including past Bard apprentice director Kevin Bennett (Much Ado About Nothing, Richard III), and actor-writer-singer-producer extraordinaire Christine Quintana.
Christine is a graduate of the UBC Theatre Program and went on to form Delinquent Theatre which has been getting rave reviews for its most recent production of STATIONARY: a recession-era musical. You might have also seen her in She Stoops to Conquer at the Arts Club or Carousel Theatre’s The Wizard of Oz.
Apart from working at Bard, Kevin is a busy man. Most recently he’s been the assistant director of the Stratford Festival’s production of The Three Musketeers. He can tell you a whole lot about Shakespeare, having directed productions of Hamlet and King Lear (The Honest Fishmongers-Havana Theatre) and Macbeth (Little Mountain Studios). Kevin is also a proud instructor for Bard on the Beach’s Young Shakespeareans program, currently teaching for his fourth season.
As always, the incomparable Christopher Gaze, Bard’s Artistic Director, will also be walking you through this summer’s plays and may even fill you in on some Bard secrets. If you have more questions after the talk, ask away! He’s always happy to chat about all things Shakespeare.
In a Nutshell talks take place 50 minutes before Hamlet and Twelfth Night and 40 minutes before Measure For Measure and Elizabeth Rex. They are completely free, no need to book, just show up ahead of the performance you’ve chosen – and enjoy!
In a Nutshell talks are sponsored by Global BC.
