In April, everything starts to feel very real at Bard on the Beach! Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of meeting with the Acting Company and creative team of Hamlet on their first day of rehearsals. In addition to hearing from director Stephen Drover, we got our first glimpse into the world of Hamlet with design presentations from Pam Johnson (Set Designer), Barbara Clayden (Costume Designer), and Mary Jane Coomber (Composer & Sound Designer), which were followed by a first read of the script with the talented Mainstage Company.

Says director Stephen Drover, “I’m so very excited to enter this process with such a gifted company of actors. It’s a special opportunity to deeply engage with this text and discover how we find ourselves in it. I’m really looking forward to learning more about this play and how we can partner with it to make a remarkable production.”

Hamlet Director Stephen Drover, Apprentice Director Ming Hudson, and actor Nadeem Phillip Umar Khitab sit together at the first read.

Set Designer Pam Johnson presents a maquette of the Hamlet set.

Costume Designer Barbara Clayden presents one of the Hamlet costume sketches.

Composer & Sound Designer Mary Jane Coomber speaks to the room at the Hamlet first read.
