Have you ever been to a Bard production and thought “wow, those costumes are gorgeous…do they rent them”?
Why thank you and no, we don’t rent them (well some minor things are bought or rented but come on… now you’re just nitpicking). Bard brings together a dream team of talented designers, cutters and sewers every spring. They work LONG hours to create hundreds of beautiful costumes, and their craftsmanship is among the best in Canada. Take for example Portia’s pale-pink silk ball gown from The Merchant of Venice last season; it took 200 hours and three people to create that dress! If you’d like another look at it, the gown is currently on display this summer at the Vancouver airport (YVR) in the Domestic Departures hall.
And right now, you can take a behind-the-scenes video tour of our costume shop at SFU Woodward’s and the Douglas Campbell Studio Stage dressing room.
