This year a garden oasis, next year a Vanier Park paradise – the greening of the Bard site has begun! Over the last few weeks SO much has been going on down at the park it’s hard to keep up: rehearsals, the Box Office moving in, volunteer training, and of course the tents going up. One extra special thing that’s happening this year is our beautiful new garden.
It’s the first part of our ‘Greening of Bard‘ plan to develop an even more beautiful environment for everyone to enjoy when you’re down for your visit. The super lovely and talented folks at KJM Country Gardens along with our fearless green leaders John McCulloch and Jennifer Gaze have designed, planted, seeded, weeded and watered to transform the Bard Village into a gorgeous garden paradise! The plants were chosen for their Shakespearean relevance, colour, texture and fragrance engaging the senses and creating a romantic, relaxing environment.
In the garden you’ll find:
Roses and rosemary as focal points in the four main plantings – “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
Carnivorous pitcher plants (Sarracenia) in the two “Henry’s Ghost” planters (fun for the kids and the kid in all of us).
White alyssum for its sweet perfume.
Eupatorium ‘Elegant Feather’ for it’s lush texture and unique appearance.
Coleus for bright contrasting colors.
Eucalyptus to calm the senses.
Geraniums for comfort and class.
KJM Country Gardens have a lovely garden centre in Southlands, Vancouver. They offer workshops, events, landscaping & design services and a beautiful environment to enjoy a coffee, stop and smell the roses. You can find out all about them on their website here.
Visit us down at the Village throughout the summer to see how the garden transforms!
