Bard Pride Night
June 24 | 7:30pm
June is Pride month, and Bard on the Beach invites you to celebrate Pride Night with us on June 24, 2023. Hosted by Karmella Barr, Emprex 51 of Vancouver, this dedicated 2SLGBTQIA+ event includes early site access and activities to celebrate Pride with the Bard family, followed by a joyful and uplifting performance of As You Like It, brimming with familiar Beatles tunes performed live.
Some of the planned special events include:
Nutshell Talk: Learn about the plot and history of As You Like It with our “In a Nutshell” talk, Drag-style! Karmella Barr will walk you through the story of As You Like It (no spoilers!) with flair and panache.
Queer Artists Market: Shop magically queer fineries from local artists, including fairy houses, prints, jewelry, and more! Take a sneak peek at some of the goods that will be available at the artists’ Instagram pages @melanie__evelyn, @thecheerandthecharm, @la.lolis.s and @hallowed.havens
Queering Shakespeare Station: Get your hands on some text at a station facilitated by local poet Jasmine Ruff. Learn about and play with poetic techniques such as collage, erasure, and more to disrupt and queer Shakespeare’s sonnets and soliloquies.
Photobooth: document the festivities in style with a photobooth by our partners at Wonder Booth.
We’ll be sampling non-alcoholic drinks and the Village opens half an hour early (6pm) so people can enjoy the space with a picnic, a drink, and friends! We can’t wait to welcome you.
