Bard on the Beach adds Performances due to Popular Demand

AUGUST 12, 2016, VANCOUVER, B.C. – Due to popular demand, Bard on the Beach is adding an additional six performances of its two productions on the Howard Family Stage (Douglas Campbell Theatre Tent). Othello will now run until September 20, and Pericles will close on September 21, extending the Howard Family Stage’s original end-of-season close from September 18 into the following week.

“Both of this year’s Douglas Campbell Theatre Tent productions were met with huge enthusiasm, and we’re thrilled to offer both general audiences and students an additional opportunity to see them before they close,” said Artistic Director Christopher Gaze. “It’s an extra chance to see a unique production of Pericles – a magical piece of theatre as envisioned by Lois Anderson. Paired with Bob Frazer’s timely and powerful interpretation of Othello, it’s a brilliant combination.”

Directed by Bob FrazerOthello tells the tragic tale of a fatally flawed leader and the master manipulator who destroys him; Bard’s production is set amidst of the violence and racism of the American Civil War. The two added performances include a student matinee on Tuesday, September 20 at 1pm, and an evening performance on Tuesday, September 20 at 7:30pm, which becomes Othello’s closing night.

Four performances of Pericles have been added due to the tremendous success of this rarely-performed work. Directed by Lois Anderson, the thrilling tale is set in an ancient mythical world and follows a prince’s arduous quest to find love and the meaning of life. Additional performances include Wednesday, September 7 at 7:30pm and Thursday September 15 at 7:30pm, as well as a student matinee on Wednesday, September 21 at 1pm. The final added performance will be on Wednesday, September 21 at 7:30pm, which becomes Pericles’ closing night.
