Fierce windstorms, brutal rays of sunlight and shockingly beautiful views are just a few of the things our dynamic site duo: Sparky Lawrence and Sid Sadowski, and our fabulous site crew are forced to deal with to get the Bard tents up in time for our first performance in five weeks!
On Monday May 27 strong winds threatened to take the tent fabric for a flight over English Bay but with dust in their eyes, the site crew braved the elements and kept everything grounded.
There is a lot these guys & gals go through to get these tents looking fantastic for you, our lovely audience.
Did you know…
– it takes 34 crew 9000 hours to put up the entire site beginning early April and one month to take it down?
– there are 128 fourteen foot ground screws holding the tent in place so it doesn’t blow away while you watch Twelfth Night?
– the tent steel was manufactured in Portland, Oregon and the tent fabric was sewn in New Zealand?
– the water runoff from the tents drains into a landscaped Rain Garden which overflows into City storm drains in extreme weather?
This year we are excited to have the wonderful folks at KJM Country Gardens lend us their landscaping expertise and transform the Village into a little Vancouver paradise. Even if you don’t manage to catch a show this year, it will be worth coming down just to soak in the sun and admire the new gardens!
