OVERVIEW
Bard on the Beach is Western Canada’s largest professional Shakespeare festival, with a focus on providing accessible, inclusive, and vibrant theatrical works to the public. The Festival presents Shakespeare plays, related dramas and special events from June to September in two modern theatre tents, in the magnificent waterfront setting of Sen̓ákw/Vanier Park. POSITION SUMMARY
The Individual Giving Manager reports to the Director of Development and is responsible for all individual donor relations as part of Bard’s membership, private foundation, and major gift campaigns – including data managing, processing donations and tax receipting, donor communications, data tracking, data reporting, individual donor events, donor customer service, maintenance of database reports and records, proposal and report writing, upgrade and solicitation strategies and bespoke cultivation and stewardship activities. You’ll be part of a welcoming and collaborative staff team that is deeply committed to upholding and practicing Bard’s Company Commitments.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- Develop and implement stewardship plans for all membership levels ($50–$9,999) as well as major gifts ($10,000+), providing personalized engagement to cultivate lasting relationships and inspire continued giving.
- Plan and execute membership promotion, acquisition, retention, renewal, upgrade, and lapsed campaigns, tracking progress and adjusting strategies to achieve results.
- Work closely with the Founding Artistic Director and Director of Development on major gift and legacy giving strategies, including proposal creation and bespoke meetings and activities.
- Assist Development leadership to support Board fundraising efforts related to individual giving.
- Plan and execute Donor and Member events in collaboration with the Development Events Coordinator.
- Manage the member/donor database to accurately track gifts, issue tax receipts, and provide timely acknowledgement of donations.
- Create and distribute e-newsletters and other marketing materials for members and donors, coordinating with colleagues in Development and Marketing as needed.
- Work with the Director of Development to set annual targets and manage the individual giving budget and produce regular Membership and campaign reports for review with the Finance department.
- Actively participate in Development team initiatives, offering ideas and feedback to enhance all fundraising campaigns.
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Proven track record in a development role, ideally within a not-for-profit arts organization.
- Strong knowledge of individual giving fundraising principles, including the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to cultivate, grow, and maintain meaningful relationships with donors and members.
- Demonstrated ability to craft compelling and persuasive proposals, donor appeals, and other communications that inspire engagement and support.
- Exceptional attention to detail and timelines, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Strong collaborative skills, working effectively with colleagues in all areas of the organization.
- Previous experience with the Spektrix database or other CRM systems; familiarity with Dotdigital is an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Bard will issue a PC laptop.
- Special event planning and coordination experience is an asset.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends for special events as required.
HOURS
Full time, permanent position, 37.5hrs/week. Evening and weekend availability will be required for events.
COMPENSATION
Salary range starts at $53,000 per annum based on the successful candidate’s skills and experience.
