Bring a unique Bard experience into your home this summer! Join Bard’s Artistic Director Christopher Gaze and the Vancouver International Wine Festival’s Executive Director Harry Hertscheg as they chat and taste wine with expert guests from the BC wine industry, in a virtual a wine-tasting event from Christopher’s backyard.

Tickets are $10 per household ($5 for Bard Members). When purchasing a Wine Wednesday ticket, please select the date(s) you prefer: July 29, August 12, September 2 or October 7.

How will we receive tickets or a link to this event?

You will receive a link to the event on the day of in your email. One hour before the event you will receive a reminder email. Both emails will include the link. This link is unique to you. 





What software or program will we be using to present the event?

We are using Zoom Webinar. We strongly suggest you download or log into your Zoom account before the event time. This will ensure that you are running the current version of Zoom and will help avoid missing the beginning of the event. 





When will we know the wine selection?

All ticketed patrons will receive a pre-show email outlining the guest and wine selections. We will strive to update the webpage as soon as new information becomes available. Check back regularly for updates. 

JULY 29

Join Harry and Christopher as they speak with Master Winemaker Howard Soon from Vanessa Vineyards.

Beginning his career working for a major brewery, Howard has gone on to garner hundreds of top awards in wine competitions around the world. Starting at Calona Wines and Sandhill nearly 40 years ago Howard has now retired, and he now works as Master Winemaker at Vanessa Vineyard in Cawston. Howard has also shared his passion for wine as a Certified Wine Educator and has taught Wine Appreciation at Okanagan College for over 35 years.

Recent recognition includes: At the 2009 Canadian Wine Awards, receiving the Canadian Winery of the Year, White Wine of the Year, Red Wine of the Year – all within the same year! In 2015, he received the Vancouver International Wine Festival Spirited Industry Professional (SIP award). In 2019, Howard was appointed to the Order of Canada and in 2020 he received an honorary Degree – Doctor of Science, from UBC Okanagan.

The three will speak about Bard and the Wine Festival and their personal current wine industry passions. Join us for this toast to friendship as the three taste a selection of three BC wines in Christopher’s garden.

Join Harry and Christopher as they speak with Tony Holler, Owner and President of Poplar Grove Winery and Randy Kaardal Q.C., past Chair and current Board Member of the Vancouver International Wine Festival and senior litigator at Hunter Litigation Chambers.

They will be tasting wines from Poplar Grove and Monster Vineyards, discussing why international recognition is indispensable for our beloved local BC wines and talking about the fundraiser Poplar Grove is offering to benefit the BC Hospitality Foundation.
