Forum – Challenging Shakespeare
June 28 | 7:30pm | Howard Family Stage
Shakespeare can be a catalyst for entirely new works that speak to our world today. There are so many opportunities – and some potential pitfalls – when creating and staging a Shakespeare play for modern audiences. The choices theatre producers make can have a major impact on the creative process, the experience for theatre-goers, and even the community at large.
Enjoy a thoughtful and lively discussion on this topic, hosted by Bard’s Associate Artistic Director Dean Paul Gibson, with panelists Cherissa Richards (Director, Harlem Duet), Tai Amy Grauman (consultant & Directing Apprentice, 2019’s The Taming of the Shrew) and Stephen Drover (Production Dramaturg, Harlem Duet). These four bring Bard-specific experience and a broad knowledge of other Canadian companies’ approaches and learning.
Onstage panel with an audience Q&A.
Event runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.
