As part of the global celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the printing of Shakespeare’s First Folio we present the first public reading of The Very Book Indeed in association with with the UBC First Folio Research Excellence Cluster, UBC Public Humanities, and Simon Fraser University. Written by Simon Fraser University professor (and Bard Explored host) Paul Budra, this one-act play tells the story of the complex, arduous, and accidental endeavour of bringing the First Folio into being.

Witty and playful, The Very Book Indeed introduces us to key historical figures as well as delightful invented characters as it weaves text from Shakespeare’s folio plays into the story of this heroic project.

Directed by Moya O’Connell and produced by Dean Paul Gibson and Patricia Badir, with actors from Bard on the Beach. The performance will be followed by a talkback session.

Admission is free with RSVP.

Seating is general admission.

Run time: Approximately 90 minutes.
