Forum: Gender and Shakespeare in 2018
Howard Family Stage
Four centuries ago, Shakespeare challenged traditional assumptions and expectations around gender. In 2018, we apply new and different lenses when we consider his characters. An onstage panel discusses the pros and cons of gender-blind casting, traditional versus modern interpretations of characters, and more – followed by an audience Q&A. General admission seating.
Moderator: Marsha Lederman (Western Arts Correspondent, Globe and Mail)
Panelists*: Colleen Wheeler (Bard Artistic Associate; Timon in Timon of Athens); Dean Paul Gibson (Bard Associate Artistic Director); Lois Anderson (Director and co-adapter of Lysistrata); Errol Durbach (Professor Emeritus, UBC)
*All panelists subject to change.
