OVERVIEW 

Bard on the Beach is Western Canada’s largest professional Shakespeare festival, with a focus on providing accessible, inclusive, and vibrant theatrical works to the public. The Festival presents Shakespeare plays, related dramas and special events from June to September in two modern theatre tents, in the magnificent waterfront setting of Sen̓ákw/Vanier Park. POSITION SUMMARY – YOUR ROLE AT BARD 

As Marketing Coordinator, you will be part of a team of arts marketing professionals in a fast-paced and creative environment. You will be responsible for coordination and production of select print & digital materials; the line management of the Festival’s social media channels, negotiating and maintaining B2B marketing partnerships with a focus on the tourism & arts sector; coordinating the department’s tracking documents & processes; and managing and sometimes creating digital assets. You’ll also be part of an energetic, collaborative and open-hearted Bard staff team that is deeply committed to upholding and advancing Bard’s Company Commitments.  

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP 

You’ll report to the Director of Marketing and Communications. No direct reports. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Social media  

Team leader for creating and coordinating content and messaging for the Festival’s social media channels; managing a regular social publishing schedule; monitoring channel traffic to engage with followers, identify issues and leverage engagement opportunities 

Production and distribution of Marketing collateral and digital content 

  • Coordinating the design process and production of select Festival promotional materials, working with staff, graphic designers & printers 
  • Organizing the distribution of Festival promotional materials, with a special focus on tourism, hospitality & community promo channels  

Business-to-business partnerships & community outreach  

    • Sourcing and supporting Marketing and cross-Departmental partnerships and B2B relationships with a primary focus on the tourism, hospitality and arts sectors; coordinating external displays and promotional events as assigned  
    • Coordinating the sponsor-supported Community Access ticket donation program; identifying and activating partnerships with community groups to support Bard’s accessibility, diversity and inclusion (EDI) goals   

    Departmental support & coordination 

      You’ll be the lead for coordinating regular & project timelines and trackers for the full Marketing team, supporting our team’s effectiveness and cohesive work practices 

      Videography & photography 

      • Coordinating the Festival’s photo, video and image file collections 
      • Creating, editing and formatting digital images and graphics (shared responsibility with Marketing Manager) 
      • Coordinating and occasionally shooting video footage of select Festival events and activities for various promotional use; editing videos segments – experience using Adobe Premiere is preferred 

      YOU’LL BE AN IDEAL CANDIDATE IF YOU HAVE 

      • 2+ consecutive years of arts marketing experience at a comparable level, preferably with performing arts organization/s in Vancouver 
      • An undergraduate degree or certification in Marketing, Communications, English Literature, Journalism or other related field of study; work experience that parallels that training will be considered 
      • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in managing social media channels – both strategy and activation 
      • Successful track record in coordinating projects and working with teams in fast-paced environments; coordinating print publication projects is an asset 
      • Confident, clear and persuasive communicator in speech; demonstrated skill in writing for public and business-to-business communications 
      • Self-motivated and entrepreneurial; delivering on assignments with strong time management skills  
      • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to maintain records and create and monitor project timelines 
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and image management software (minimum: Photoshop); video editing and shooting experience is an asset 
      • Demonstrated interest in the performing arts (ideally theatre); some familiarity with Shakespeare’s works is an asset 
      • Valid BC driver’s license is an asset 
      • A demonstrated commitment to inclusion, with experience in fostering a sense of belonging for a diverse spectrum of individuals 

      HOURS AND WORK LOCATION 

      Full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with occasional evening or weekend assignments  

      The position allows for a hybrid (remote and in-person) work schedule, to be negotiated with the Director of Marketing and Communications in accordance with Bard’s HR policies. Bard’s administrative offices are at 162 West 1st Avenue in Vancouver.

      TERMS AND COMPENSATION 

      Minimum $41,000 annually. Negotiable based on qualifications and level of experience. Employer-funded extended health and dental benefits.
