Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival

Full-time contract term: February 2022 to October 30, 2022
(potential extension at the end of the term)


Bard on the Beach is Western Canada’s largest professional Shakespeare festival, with a focus on providing accessible, inclusive, and vibrant theatrical works to the public. The Festival presents Shakespeare plays, related dramas and special events from June to September in two modern theatre tents, in the magnificent waterfront setting of Sen̓ákw/Vanier Park. The Operations Coordinator is responsible for cultivating relationships with patrons and coordinating Festival special events and groups. Reporting to the Director of Operations and supervised by the Operations Manager and Patron and Volunteer Supervisor, this position is a key operations team member and will be involved in all areas of front of house, special events, retail, and volunteer coordinating. You will direct volunteers and will oversee the on-site operations of special events and marquee events during the June–September Festival. And you’ll be part of a welcoming and collaborative staff team that is deeply committed to upholding and practicing Bard’s Company Commitments.


Events and Groups

  • Liaising with multiple departments to provide a seamless and streamlined experience for group ticket buyers and guests for all on-site hospitality events.
  • Contacting suppliers, entertainers, and caterers to organize logistics of deliveries, pick-ups, and set up for each event.
  • Assisting with the organizing of internal Bard on the Beach special events including Family Nights, Relaxed Performances and Bard-B-Q and Fireworks.
  • Assisting with the organizing of external special events with community partners including the Vancouver International Wine Festival.
  • Managing picnics and special requests.
  • Communicating new ideas or concerns and assisting in the development and implementation of the best possible events experience for guests, staff, and volunteers with consistent follow-up.
  • Liaising with Bard’s accounting department to ensure proper invoicing and working with ticketing software Spektrix and Square point of sale system.

Operations Support

  • Assisting with volunteer coordination, training, and ongoing support
  • Ensuring compliance with BC Liquor Laws and Food Safe requirements
  • Supporting the retail and revenue goals for the Operations department
  • Assisting with training and general support of the Concession, Bar, and Boutique
  • Providing general support for the Front of House
  • Set-up of Audience Services with a special focus on accessibility and inclusion
  • Assist with the management of our facilities, venues, and office spaces
  • Assisting with other departments’ needs or requests (venue set up, logistics etc.)
  • Assisting with occasional minor tech requests


  • A passion for working with volunteers and members of the public
  • Experience in working with the public and creating a welcoming space
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Clear communication skills, in writing and in conversation
  • The ability to stay organized and accurate in a time-sensitive and fast-moving environment while also being flexible and comfortable with new projects
  • A passion for live theatre and the arts, especially Shakespeare, and for inclusive audience practices
  • The ability to respond to last minute requests in a positive and productive manner
  • A great sense of humour
  • Group event coordination experience
  • A minimum of 1 year of Front of House experience and/or Box Office experience
  • Comfortability with Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Teams and SharePoint
  • First Aid level 1 (training can be provided)
  • Serving It Right (training can be provided)
  • Driver’s license (preferred)


$20.00 per hour, full-time 37.5/hours per week
